New Courts at the Club
The tennis club has undergone a major revamp and now boasts newly refurbished courts thanks to external grant funding, this along with other work has seen the club undergo a complete transformation over the last five years.
Starting with a brand new clubhouse in 2015 and a disabled access pathway in 2017*, the club has now had all four courts resurfaced thanks to grants from Sport England (£25,000) and Ibstock Enovert (£18,000).
After the courts had begun to deteriorate to an unacceptable playing standard the club’s committee realised that without new courts the club could potentially fold. With so many people using the facility including; long standing and new members, many children attending coaching and holiday camps, LTA Tennis For Kids, local schools, other competing clubs, Dudley Age UK participants and patients from Bushey Fields as well as fund raising events for mental health, committee members began to look at how the club could be saved.
With its strong support of tennis for all in the community the club applied to Sport England and Ibstock Enovert for grants. After many hours of meetings and support from Councillor Dave Tyler, Blount Hemmings Solicitors, Dudley Council, Hickory’s and Helping Hands, the committee received the fantastic news that their applications had been successful. Work began on the courts in September and has now been completed to a very high standard to the delight of its members.
Adrian Hyde, Chair and Head Coach, said, "This marks a new era for the club in which it can confidently build on the successes of recent and past years. I would like to pay tribute to those on the committee who have worked tirelessly to make this happen and to the above mentioned people and groups. They have all helped create a legacy for the community in which everyone is welcome to enjoy the game of tennis and its associated benefits of health, social interaction, and competition and just having fun."
In the Spring of next year the courts will be painted to enhance the appearance and the club will hold an opening ceremony as well as its annual open day for anyone wishing to try the game at this friendly club. For those who can’t wait please go to www.wallheathtennisclub.co.uk where you can find details of what the club has to offer and contacts.

Break Point 2019 - Club supports one woman tennis challenge
A borough based tennis club will welcome Robyn Moore as part of her 30 day challenge to play 200,000 tennis shots in a bid to raise money for charity.
Wall Heath Tennis Club is one of a specially selected group of clubs chosen across the country to host Robyn as she takes on the challenge, which starts on June 1 at her home club in Hampshire.
Robyn suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder and over the course of the month will play a minimum of eight hours a day, hitting the ball five million metres to represent one metre for every adult in the UK experiencing mental ill health. As well as raising money for charity, Robyn hopes to raise awareness about how tennis and sport can help improve people's mental wellbeing.
Money raised as part of the challenge will be donated to the Bright Ideas for Tennis charity to expand their 'I Play 30' programme, which already provides free tennis sessions for people with learning, sensory and physical disabilities. With the extra funds, the programme will include sessions for mental health groups as well as support ex-service personnel suffering from PTSD and amputees in their rehabilitation.
Robyn will be at the Wall Heath club on Thursday June 6 and will take her first shot at 8am. Joining her on the day will be Danny Sapsford, former British Davis Cup player from Bright Ideas Tennis.
Throughout the day the club will support Robyn by organising activities to motivate and support her, including a school kids tournament from 9.30 to 11am. AGE UK and guests will be at the club from 11.30am to 12.30pm, there will be cardio sessions with Danny Sapsford from 1 to 1.30pm (£5 per person), an adult tournament from 1.45 to 4pm (£5 per person) and a junior fun session from 4 to 5pm. All money raised on the day will help children and adults locally and nationally to improve their mental wellbeing. If you with to make a donation please click on the link to go to our JustGiving page: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/breakpoint19-wallheathtennis?newPage=True
The Mayor or Dudley, Councillor David Stanley and his consort, Councillor Anne Millward will also be stopping by at 1.30pm.
Robyn will serve up her final shots of the challenge at the All England Community ground in Wimbledon on June 30, a day before the the Wimbledon championship gets underway.
Adrian Hyde, club chairman, said:
"We're really proud to be the only local club chosen to be part of this event and support Robyn as she raises awareness and money for such an important cause.
"At the club, we've worked with mental health organisations and have seen first hand the difference being active and playing sport can make in a person's health and wellbeing.
"This is a great way to highlight such an important issue. We wish Robyn the best of luck and look forward to welcoming her to the club.
"I'd urge local people to come along on the day and show Robyn some support as well taking part in the activities available "I'd also like to thank everyone involved in organising the event, particularly Lorna Harris who has helped the club become part of this national event.

Wall Heath Tennis Club will be serving up free tennis sessions at an event later this month.
The club, off Enville Road, will be hosting its annual open day on Saturday May 18 from 10am to 1pm.
During the morning, free fun tennis sessions with prizes and refreshments will be available to give children and adults an opportunity to sample the game and club's friendly atmosphere.
Sessions will be held from 10 to 10.50am for children aged four to 9, 11am to noon for young people aged 10 to 17 and from noon to 1pm for adults. Places must be booked in advance at www.lta.org.uk/tennisweekends. Search Wall Heath Tennis Club.

Adrian Hyde, club chairman, said:
"We see ourselves as very much a community club and our aim is to get as many people being active and playing tennis as possible. We want people to come and have fun, get fit and learn a new skill.
"Despite being a small club, we do compete regionally and our men's A team was recently promoted as champions back to the top of the Hereford and Worcester Leagues. We're really proud of this achievement and being able to compete at a top level with much larger clubs.
"Of course, we don't expect everyone to want to compete regionally, we just want people to come and have a go. Our open day and the free sessions are a great way for everyone to do just that and we hope to see many new faces there."
The open day is one of many being organised across the country as part of the LTA Tennis for Britain's Nature Valley Big Tennis Weekends.
